Task 4: Be able to evaluate audience responses to own 2d animation work
Evaluation At
first I decided that I was going to make my animation on ‘Wideo’ or ‘ABCya!’ As
I knew how to use them quite well but I was shown Adobe Flash Player, which is
what I ended up using. It ended up making my animation a lot better, my
original plan was to make all my characters into stick men and then just focus
on my background which completely changed as I used flash, I decided that
instead of using stick figures I would just use balls and have them all
have a chase with one another, this made it a lot more simpler but also a lot
more effective I think. Regarding my background I only used a white background
as I wanted everyone to focus on the balls and I also think different colours
would make it look a bit stupid, I did try some out but I didn't like it.
I definitely think I achieved my goals for this piece, and I think my animation
has turned out better because it looks more visually interesting, especially
the way the balls chase each other and how sometimes it will go into slow
motion, whereas if I was to use stick figures it would look boring I think. I
chose to use balls because when I first started using flash I found it hard
because I hadn’t used it before, so it was all very new to me so trying to make
loads of stick figures was quite challenging, so I started practicing making
balls but then when I started practicing with the movements I started to like
it and how it fill well together, I especially like how my message comes
across, my main message is bullying, the way it comes across is that one ball
is red and the other three are blue and they are the ones chasing the red ball,
which stands for them bullying it. I don’t think the audiences will find it
hard to understand because my piece is quite simple. After I established that I
was using balls instead, I had to come up with a title; my title is ‘Join the
Dots’, it was a very random thought but I really liked the sound of it.
After
I started getting used to flash and had some help from my teacher, I finally
finished my piece after making two scenes and then putting them together. I am very
glad I used flash as it made my animation more interesting than I thought it
would be, and now that I am used it I don’t find it very hard anymore. After
this I exported my work onto Final Cut Pro so that I could add a soundtrack. This
was also very challenging as I couldn’t really find any sounds that went with
my animation, my plan was to find a upbeat chase song, but in the end I settled
with a chase song but it is quite dark at the same time, I am happy with it but
if I was to improve I would find a better song. After I finished I uploaded it
onto YouTube and then onto my Vimeo page.
Overall
I am very happy with how my animation has turned out but if I was to improve I would
pick a different song and also maybe add more effects to my editing.
